Côte-d'Or department deploys ON'connect technology™ switch technology in all its colleges to preserve water resources
François SAUVADET, President of the Côte-d'Or Departmental Council (21), and Patricia VILLOSLADA, Managing Director of SUEZ Digital Solutions, today announced the deployment of the ON'connect™ switch digital solution on the water distribution networks in all Côte-d'Or public secondary schools, enabling them to detect water losses and control water networks remotely and in real time. A first in France on a departmental scale!
Developed by SUEZ subsidiary Hydrelis, ON'connect™ switch technology is installed on the water distribution networks of secondary schools. Once in place, the technology enables flow rates to be monitored 24 hours a day. Algorithms embedded in the electronics identify the slightest leak in the network in real time. An alert is then sent to the school manager, indicating the size of the leak and the network concerned. Equipped with a solenoid valve, the solution offers the option of shutting down the faulty network from the dedicated web portal, or automatically in the event of a major leak.
On'connect™ switch technology also offers the possibility of analyzing water consumption patterns by facility according to days and times. It thus defines the settings for automatic cut-offs/openings of water networks to avoid the risk of leakage, according to an activity schedule such as the closure of water networks at night, at weekends, and during school vacations.
Long committed to the energy transition of its own buildings, including the 47 public secondary schools it owns, the Côte-d'Or department has been the first to experiment with this solution. Starting in 2021, it will be used in 6 establishments1. The experiment was a success, with 121 leaks detected, saving 12,500 m3 of water (the equivalent of 5 Olympic-sized swimming pools) and €44,000.
"In view of the solution's economic and environmental performance, we have decided to deploy it in all our public secondary schools2. This makes us the first department in France to use this solution to save water resources. We have intensified our actions. Everything must be done to preserve water resources and rationalize our expenditure on fluid management. We will continue to use data-driven tools to better control energy expenditure. Thanks to this technology, we can transform data into information, and then this information into knowledge, for active management of our consumption and our assets" emphasized François SAUVADET, President of the Côte-d'Or Department.
Patricia VILLOSLADA, Managing Director of SUEZ Digital Solutions said, "As a leader in circular and digital solutions, we provide our customers with high environmental performance services that rely on data to sustainably optimize territorial resources. Today, we are proud to support the Côte-d'Or department with the ON'connect™ switch digital solution, which, for the next 10 years, will enable the department's public colleges to make potential water savings equivalent to 94 Olympic swimming pools."
